Presentation
Abstract In an article entitled, "The Digital Interviewer," Rebecca Piirto Heath states that "the computer has become a ubiquitous and indispensable tool for gathering and analyzing most, if not all, of the market research data being collected today." Reporting in the August 1997 issue of Marketing Tools, Heath provides several examples of the ways computer-assisted data collection has created new opportunities for market and survey researchers.
For example, Heath reports on the growing use of disk-by-mail surveys, the benefits of multimedia interviewing, and the wide-spread use of computer-aided telephone interviewing (CATI) and computer-aided personal interviewing (CAPI). According to Sue Weiss, Sawtooth News editor who is quoted in the article, "Technology is allowing us to do things we couldn't do before. We can ask longer questions, test more sophisticated stimuli, and obtain various kinds of data we couldn't obtain before."
